Major proposals designed to revitalise Stretford will help create a “thriving town centre,” one of the senior figures behind the project has told Insider, with Andrea George of Bruntwood Works outlining why now is the right time for the plans to move forward. The outline submission has been developed by Bruntwood Works and Trafford Council. It comes about as a result of a long-term commitment from the joint venture to transform the town centre and Stretford Mall.Lined up is the historic King Street being reinstated to provide a new high street, with an expanded and evolved retail and leisure offering.Enhanced public spaces – including the new Library Square – are also proposed, while Lacy Street car park is to be repurposed to open up access to the Bridgewater Canal.A Makers Yard hub for small independents and the evening economy is one of the core elements of the masterplan, while up to 800 homes would also be introduced.Andrea George, town centre and consumer brands director at Bruntwood Works, has spoken to Insider about the project.George noted that while it is “exciting” for the company to see plans move into their next stage, it is an “even bigger milestone for the local community”.
